If you go for button mashing something spectacular will eventually happen. Obviously the most important question when any Soul Calibur game comes out is what the hell is Voldo going to be wearing this time? Imagine the offspring of Voldo and Yoshimitsu for example? Or Asteroth and the lizard lady woman thing.
They could have chosen a more interesting character's descendants. Story mode forces you to play as Sophitia's children Patroklos and Pyrrha who use her moves list which is not the most dynamic or strategic. Single players will feel jipped by this installment.ĩ0% of the cut scenes are storyboard drawings. Which is good, BUT that's about all that's improved. The characters are looking a little more stylized, almost anime. Want to make a character that looks like this? Probably not, but you probably could. Also improved is character customization mode, which gives you thousands and thousands of possible combinations of stuff to make the character you want. The fighting is as awesome as ever and a little faster with an amazingly smooth engine rendering the action at 60 frames per second. But that's not saying much since the only competition is Deadliest Warrior series, both of which handle a bit like tortoises in mud, oh and Battle Arena Toshinden which hasn't had a game out since the year of our lord 1997. Well the good news is, Soul Calibur is still the best 3D weapons simulator going. So, how has the franchise held up in its 17 years? Then came a sequel, Soul Calibur, released it exclusively on Dreamcast, and I should know I'm one of the five people who bought one.
Then Namco released version 1.5 for the PS1 and called it Soul Blade and I should know my girlfriend bought it for my birthday then never saw me again. In 1996 Soul Edge appeared in my local Arcade and I should know, I practically paid for the thing in two-dollar coins. Okay, I look a bit like Edge Master as well. Probably because I look a bit like the Dread Pirate Cervantes.
Soul Calibur is my favourite game series ever.
